

Students can start any Monday for most courses. The exam preparation courses, Young Executive English Program, and High School Preparation courses have set start dates. These are listed on the courses and fee sheet attached to our brochure.
The average class size is 10-12 students. If you are doing a Cambridge Exam course the maximum number of students in the class will be 12. If you are doing General English the maximum number in the class will be 15.
Students come from all around the world to study at Kaplan International College schools. We have students from Poland, Japan, China, Korea, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Colombia,Denmark, Italy etc.
Students usually rely on public transport. Students in Cairns usually travel by bike, Cairns is flat sprawling city and our homestays are within an 8 kilometre distance from the school. Alternatively there is a private bus company available.
Your host family will provide breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday if you are at home. Lunch is not included during the week so you will need to buy your lunch in the city. There are many cafes and take-away restaurants close to the school.
In Cairns there is an in-house cafe offering sandwiches, drinks and snack foods.
If your English language level is high enough and your academic record is good you can choose to go onto further study. In most cases you will need to do an IELTS test and gain the required results in this test for entry to some institutions.
If you are planning to study full time and for longer than 12 weeks, you will need to travel to Australia on a student visa. If you plan to study for less than 12 weeks then you may travel on a Visitor or Working Holiday visa.
When you travel and study in another country you need to allow some living expenses in addition to your course fees. The cost of living in Queensland is relatively inexpensive compared to other capital cities in the UK and US. Most students need to allow between $800 - $1200 per month depending on lifestyle and accommodation.
You will be surprised at how much there is to do in Cairns. Once you start your course you will make friends with other students and often you will do things together after class and on weekends.
The Cairns school runs an in house social club "Crocodile Club" - weekly activities are available including volleyball, tennis, dinner nights, pub nights, snorkelling trips alternatively just speak to the Coordinator and she will organise any requests from you.
The school has computer rooms set up for use by classes. The computers are also available for students to use during their breaks and before and after class. This service is free of charge.
